May is Vinegar Month

Eight smart uses for vinegar:

Since May is National Vinegar Month (did you forget?), we thought we'd take a closer look at this inexpensive, versatile good.

According to the Vinegar Institute, the useful stuff was probably discovered by accident (most wine drinkers know what happens when you leave a bottle sitting around too long). In fact the word vinegar comes from a French translation for “sour wine”

Over the centuries vinegar has been produced from many stocks, including molasses, dates, sorghum, fruits, coconut, honey, beer, maple syrup, potatoes, beets, grains, and more. But the principle is the same: You get acetic acid (a.k.a. vinegar) after first fermenting natural sugars to alcohol, and then fermenting again.

As Michael de Jong, The Daily Green's Zen Cleaner and author of the Clean series of books, points out, vinegar has been pressed into service for many uses over the centuries. It has been prized as a foodstuff, condiment, preservative, and natural remedy.

What's so great about vinegar? Besides being effective, vinegar is cheap and widely available. It is nontoxic and lasts for a very long time without losing strength. It does not pollute land, air, or water, and it doesn't combust. It's much safer to have under your sink than bleach, ammonia, or other toxic cleaning products. Many folks also swear by the benefits of apple cider vinegar.

In the spirit of green cleaning, green thrift and green creativity we put together this list of alternative uses for vinegar.

Cure hiccups
Some have said they were able to cure pesky hiccups instantly by swallowing a teaspoon of vinegar. Most folks use white vinegar, but people have also reported success with apple cider, balsamic, and rice varieties. So you have a few options as far as taste and aroma.

Fight cramps
If you often get foot or leg cramps in the middle of the night, you may want to try boosting your potassium levels. There are a number of great superfoods rich in potassium (way beyond bananas). Some folks have also suggested trying this remedy: Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon of honey, and a cup of hot water. Then drink before bed. Yummy!

Break bad bonds
Having trouble getting that annoying sticky label residue off a product? Or accidentally glue something together? Vinegar can be used as a solvent to dissolve many common adhesives. Vinegar is also good at cutting grease.

Deter cats
We love cats. But sometimes you don't want them doing their business in the kids' sandbox or in your flower bed. According to HomeEnvy, a simple solution is to pour vinegar around the edges of the area you want to protect every few months.

Wash produce
According to the green team at Ideal Bite, vinegar can help remove bacteria and pesticide residues from fruits and veggies. Mix three parts water to one part white vinegar, and dispense in a spray bottle. Then rinse with water. The site claims this wash kills 98% of bacteria on produce.

Clean windows
Instead of spending money on window cleaning chemicals -- especially ones that include toxic or potentially toxic chemicals -- make your own! Mix 2 tablespoons of white vinegar with a gallon of water, and dispense into a used spray bottle. Squirt on, then scrub with newspaper, not paper towels, which cause streaking.

Get spring-fresh laundry
Got grass stains? No problemo, says Michael de Jong. Make a mixture of one-third cup white vinegar and two-thirds cup water. Apply the solution to the stain and blot with a clean cloth. Repeat this process until you've removed as much green as possible, and then launder as usual.

When your big washing day comes around, toss in a capful of white vinegar. Your colors will come out bolder and your whites whiter. If you've recently had an encounter with a skunk, it will take more than a capful.

After washing, get a sharper crease in pants by dipping the cloth in a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water. Then wring out the cloth and press the creases. Now you look like Dilbert!

Clean carpets
According to this The Daily Green community member: "Spots in carpets often remove with a simple dilution of one part vinegar, one-sixteenth part lemon juice, and eight parts distilled water."

And of course for me as a....

Vaginal wash
Seriously! Very effective compared to the ones sold in the grocery store. Just mix 1tablespoon of vinegar to 4cups of water and viola! Instant feminine wash! I normally do it once a month, preferably after the monthly period. :)

Yet Another New Toy

I love taking pictures ever since my sister bought me my first digital camera back in 2003, my very first SONY DSC-P32 and besides that I was borrowing my brothers’ camera. Not until early last year my brother Tony gave me a SONY DSC-W50, I was happy with it. Later on my dear bf was encouraging me to buy a good camera - a DSLR he suggested. But I told him I'm not that good enough to handle something like that, he said it is easy to learn if I have the interest to do so.

And so for months I've been asking myself to buy or not to buy... At first I was eyeing the CANON Power Shot S5 IS and I asked my friend Hazel if she knows somebody who could tell me if it's a good buy for someone who’s new in photography. So she asked her friend Jay who is a photography enthusiast. He said for a few more thousand pesos I could upgrade to CANON 400D Kit. I quickly research on the item and found out that it cost 39,950 here in the Philippines and my budget was much less than that. Later on I found out that in Malaysia 400D would only cost around 30k plus freebies! I got so excited and asked Hazel who is based in Malaysia if she could buy me one and if she doesn’t mind bringing it along when she comes home. She agreed! And I was sooooo excited! Hehehe!

Hazel arrived in Manila last August 7, after weeks of waiting, last August 8, during our get-together snack/early dinner at Shakey’s Katipunan… I got my brand new DSLR CANON EOS Rebel XTi 400D Kit…

At 23% less I also get a free bag,
screen protector, and 2gig Compact Flash

Thank you to my ever kumareng Hazel for making it all possible and her friend Jay who gave a good advice...

By the way, here is Jay's site... O diba, nakakaencourage maging isang magaling na photographer by just looking at his works... Hehehe!!!

Here's my model. Shy kuno pero very willing to pose naman. Wag lang daw nude... Hehehe! My first shot... Long way to go before I get used to all its knobs, controls, etc....

One on the left was sold to Tet.... :)

Lashes

A few days ago I saw this ad at shopcrazy.com and got curious about it. I quickly made an appointment for me and a friend of mine.

Jai have been planning to have her eyelash done months before but it never push through. I asked her if she wants to go with me and it'll be my birthday gift for her. She gladly agreed.
Yesterday, we were right on the dot for our 3pm appointment. The place is kinda small.. as in really really small. Enought space for five chairs only. Barely a room for a companion if you decide to bring a friend or two - they have to wait outside. I just hope they upgrade to a new and bigger place and add more technicians. The two hours we were there, they had to put a few people on a waiting list. That's bad for the business - keeping your possible suki waiting.

The experience is really new to me. I'm not into my eyelashes that much. I don't even wear mascara. I'm more the eyeliner kinda girl. And I would rather have my nails done. So this is just to say that I tried it. I still don't know if I will maintain the lashes long after all the fake ones fall off. You see, part of the "how to maintain and care for the lashes" is, you can't sleep on your stomach which is very hard for me because I prefer to sleep on my stomach or on my side. Hay! The price of beauty! Hahaha! If you really take care of it, it could last for 2 to 4 months. With retouch of course!

If you decide to have yours done. Prepare for a lot of stinging sensation and don't get scared if you wake-up after the procedure crying and and your eyes all red. It would only take like 10 to 15minutes to get used to it. Bring a fan, it helps a lot. After that... Enjoy your new look!

Jai and I had the Mascara Effect in Medium size.

Dates

Our Valentine’s date was a disaster in terms of food.

I loved the ambiance though. Wrong choice of food nga lang talaga.

I chose the Bellini’s Set Menu for Valentine’s. It turned out to be like a sampler of what they offer normally in the restaurant, a bit of that and a bit of this. We were surprised how it was presented. I expected more. I guess, bottom-line is natakam lang ako sa binigay nilang food because of the quantity they served us. And the restaurant was quite busy that night and they were under staff. Jet though, still managed to find the funny side of our experience. And he vowed not to return again in that restaurant. I, on the other hand still wants to experience the real Bellini’s, the one I read on the reviews, the one that makes them say the best kept secret of Cubao…

(True enough, I found my vindication a week later!)

After our V date, we went to Gateway Mall bought a few stuff and went home. Jet, had a good time teasing me, “Bellini’s Bellini’s ka pa dyan ha! Sana nagbarbecue nalang tayo sa kanto o kaya nag Pares nalang tayo o kaya nagluto ka nalang…” Hahaha! At least he loved their sweet red wine and I loved their dessert! :p

There’s always a next year… A better Valentine’s date I hope… Hehehe!

~~~~~
Last Friday, Jet and I celebrated our fourth year anniversary.
Four years… another year of being together, having and loving each other.
Nothing special was planned. Okay lang sa akin. What’s important was, we got to celebrate it on the exact date. Luckily his rest day was Fri and Sat, good enough for me. We, as always, reminisced what happened the day we met. I remember I still have the receipt of our first date ever. I even kept the clothes I wore the first day we met! Maski luma na… Corny ko talaga! Hahaha! Of course I never told him about the clothes or else walang kamatayang alaskahan nanaman yan…
We went to Tiendesitas to buy the meds of my dogs. We strolled around the tiangge area. He was looking for something pala to commemorate our fourth year. I didn’t want any jewelry or anything fancy. Then he saw the scarf hanging from one of the stalls. He asked me if I like any one of them. I side I like the blue one and he chose the green one… And that was it… Our gifts… Hehehe! Mukha nga lang syang rebel pagsuot nya. I guess, nasa nagdadala lang yan at kung kaya mo panindigan. Why not!
Then we went to Bonifacio High Street our favorite place to walk around and people watch. We had an early dinner at TGIF. I was not in the mood to go on a food trip kasi I had colds. Kaya hindi ko rin naman malalasana masyado. Sayang lang to spend that much. He enjoyed naman his Grilled Chicken and I loved naman my Tossed Tomato Basil Chicken Pasta… On diet ba kami? Chicken? Hehehe! After dinner, we walked around, took pictures and people watched. I dog watched actually.. Hehehe! There was this big Minpin and I couldn’t believe it grew that big. I mean, it looked like a big log with tiny legs. I wouldn’t let my babies grow big like that and have them suffer from arthritis... Small dogs like that are not meant to grow that big. I pity the dog. I hate the owners who overfed their pets as if it is healthy and cute. Hindi naman kasi sila tao para makapagsalita kung ano nararamdaman nila. I mean, mahirap pag sila ang nagkasakit. Buti kung tao yun at pwede magsalita kung ano masakit sa kanila. There was also this beagle that acted as if he is a baby. You wonder tuloy who is the real master… Nagkakaron tuloy ng personality confusion if he’s a dog or a human. Hehehe! As if I’m not guilty of this! Well, before I was! Nakakaawa kasi eh… So I let them be nalang…
After, we just drove around the metro. Before going home I bought a cake and a few stuff for Nanay.
If it weren’t for our anniversary, I really didn’t want to go out anymore. Actually, for the last few months, we wanted to just spent the day at home, order in food or I’ll cook something and just watch TV or DVD in my room and Jet would sleep over and that’s it. I guess when you’ve been together for so long and you’ve been around already, going out to gimik places loses its appeal na.
Every now and then though, we like to go out of the metro, drive to Tagaytay, Laguna, Batangas, or try out new restaurants or just sit in our favorite coffee house. Juts be still together.
~~~~~

Four years… who would have thought I would last this long in a relationship (my mantra). I never did. Every years we get to celebrate it, really leaves me in wonder. I mean, I am capable of making something work with someone pala. Although there are times that I become all that bitchy and Jet hates me when I turn into one. He just ignores me and keeps his cool. Something that I know plays a great part of keeping this relationship sane. Hehehe!

I think Communication, Trust and Respect are the three main component of a relationship. And Love is entirety of these three. Jet and I talk about anything and everything we could think of. I’m not afraid to speak my mind out with him, I’m not afraid he’ll judge me or he’ll criticize my opinion. I talk he listens and vise versa. I trust him with all my heart and soul. I threw out my paranoia years ago. And I’m glad I did. Though sometimes I like to tease him about some girls and act like a jealous bitch. That brings up the spice a level higher… Hehehe! But I know naman in his heart he only has his eyes on me. And of course I respect him being a man that he is. I know there was a time that what I want, I get. Almost being like the man in the relationship, always in command. Years of being with him, knowing him more and believing in him, he tamed me more than anything else.

We’re not a perfect couple. Nothing is smooth sailing, not unless you work on it. We still have moments of not looking at the same direction. But it’s much lesser now. We’re quieter. Not unless boredom hits me and I create this ruckus that makes him crazy. Hehehe!

What I learned from this relationship is, admitting that you are wrong and saying sorry doesn’t make you less of a person. And it is also important that you have your own time for yourself and so does he. Everyday and each day you spend with him, love is the reason why. You love him and you want and need to be with him…

Hay… Love… Corny ko na…

~~~~
Yesterday, I was still nursing my cold when Tet sms’d me that she was online; I was also but in invincible mode… We talked about our life again and stuff…It’s been a while since we talked. Then she asked if I want to go out later that afternoon for coffee… I also messaged Jai if she wants to come along and she did after daw ng binyag na pupuntahan nya, so she’ll just follow us nalang.
Tet and I have this thing when ever we’re together. We couldn’t decide where to go. So I quickly said let’s try Mogwai in Cubao Expo. I heard it’s a nice place. I just want to check it out. Mogwai is co-owned by Erik Mati. Good food and they have this theater on the second floor where in customers could see a movie. We were there from 5:30pm till 8:00pm. Jai was running late. Then we decided to transfer to Bellini’s also in Cubao Expo. I wanted to try it again to prove Jet that we we’re just unlucky the first time we went there. Jai arrived around 8:30pm… We were seated at the area that I wanted Jet and I to be, it has a nicer ambiance there. And I love the decoration and all… Too much to look at and I love it… Hehehe! We were in our own corner. We had a good laugh about our life and everything under the sun. Jai being horny and all… Me being sick but still craving for more food… Tet, just being herself… Who loves being crazy in the camera. We ordered good nice comfort food. Love the pasta and the pizza was something different. Love the fresh crust and how sweet the onions were. Plus! If you asked for a hot sauce, you’ll be given an olive oil with chilies in it – too hot! The appetizer… Salmon in Crostinis… love love love the sweet taste of the salmon against the very tasty butter and slightly toasted bread. Hay…. Sabi nga ni Tet, we already had our dinner at Mogwai pero ginawa lang naming appetizer yung grilled lapu-lapu! Hehehe! Food trip talaga ito!
Good food with good old friends… We left Bellini's at 10:30pm and went to Starbuck's AliMall for coffee before finally going home at 12...
Tonight's Plan
I’m so excited for tonight. I had something planned for our post Valentine’s date.
The past few days I’ve been racking my brains on what to do. Just because I told Jet that I’ll be in charge of our Valentine’s date and he in turn has something planned for our anniversary next week. I was suddenly pressured to think of something. I don’t remember what we did the first year we spent Valentine’s Day. I don’t even remember celebrating it. Last year I know we went to Tagaytay for a dinner. It was on impulse because we had no reservation at any restaurant in town.
But this year, I think it would really be different. Something romantic I hope. I had Florene call Bellini’s, an Italian restaurant inside Cubao Shoe Expo (formerly known as Makirina Shoe Expo), and had us a reservation tonight. I’ve heard countless stories about this resto having authentic Italian dishes that wouldn’t hurt your pockets and of course a nice ambiance to go with that.
I live fifteen minutes away from Cubao and the establishment has been up and running for the past eight or nine years, sad to say, this is my first time to visit the place. I took it for granted. Though I frequent Cubao and most of my boring days are spent there, every time I would pass by Cubao Expo and see Bellini’s from afar, I would say “next time next time…” Now.. I get to experience it myself with my love one. Can’t wait for tonight… I hope he likes it too... :)
WoW!
Three months, three weeks and two days... that's how long I’ve abandoned this site...
It's been one hectic hiatus though and I was toooo (again and again and again) lazy to update this blog. I settled with my multiply account to tell my story for the past months. Pictures and pictures and more pictures.
But now, I guess I’m ready to rekindle my relationship with my blog… :p
After I got my passport I was off with my friend for our Palawan getaway…. We had a blast. I’m still hungry for more travel. Soon…
A few days after, I was busy with our angels cleaning two floors of our house because my sister was coming home after being away for three years. I had to move all my stuff from her room in the third floor up to my original room in the fourth floor. It took me and our angels three whole weeks to clean everything and have everything prepared for them before their arrival last November 29, 2007.
My sister and her family stayed for a month and a half. It felt like two weeks. The kids all grown up now and so makulit parin but Niko, the eldest is a lot tamer than Victor the youngest. Maybe because he is in that stage where in he feels he is not a kid anymore but adults think otherwise. He had fun bonding with Tito Jet. They enjoyed bullying me. Goodness! I could still hear them shouting at the top of their lungs “HIGH MAINTENANCE!” Hehehe! We had fun taking the kids out when it was “our” day (para tumahimik naman ang bahay at walang sawayin si Ate Lita.
Bonding with the kids and bonding with Ate Cindy…. I’m missing them again, right this moment. I try to block the emotions that would slowly creep in whenever I think of them. I remember Ate telling me on the way to the airport a few hours before they leave, “You know what hurts the most? It is leaving again for the second time and leaving Nanay this way, when she needs me the most. But I have my family to think about. You do understand don’t you?” I just nodded as I turn my head away. I was trying to control my tears because I hate the drama; I hate tears, maybe because the years without her at my side left me a cold bitch. I’ve put up my walls again, against any brouhaha between me and my “family”, issues in between. I just lived my life as if they don’t exist. So cold I burn myself sometimes.
Christmas and New Year was okay. We had fun. We were supposed to go to the beach but due to limited time we just spent every moment here at home with Nanay. There came a point the kids were so bored they were pestering me… Hehehe! I miss their kakulitan talaga…
What else… a couple of family reunions… a Christmas dinner (for the first time) with the future in-laws… Lot’s of coffee dates with a friend who needs support. Seeing P10 girls together again. Late nights with Suzy. Tim Horton addict thanks to Ate. Sex and the City renewed, can’t wait for the movie. Ate Cindy finally really liking and loving my boyfriend/fiancé (whenever she calls she would ask about him and would encourage us to move to Canada someday. On the side she would joke if I was truly the woman right for Jet.. Parang sya pa ang hindi sure kung tama ba ako kay Jet ah… Hehehe!). Last minute shopping with Jai. And having Nanay back after four months of missing her.
Oh and also, Mandy, my dog got wild last December and bit two of our angels. Prompting me to go home early from my Christmas dinner with my highschool barkada – P10, only to find out it was nothing to be alarmed of. Mandy was just having her time of the month. She was also jealous I think, because everybody was focus on something but her which was not the case before my sister arrived. She got used to being treated as the baby of the house. She’s okay now but Jet thinks she needs to get laid… Not gonna happen!!!
2007, have been a good year for me. Not perfect but okay.
2008… A few things I’m looking forward to…
New beginnings… I pray to God things will happen in His right time. I trust Him whatever His decisions are for me.
Old celebrations... This year Jet and I will be celebrating our fourth year anniversary as a couple. Wow! I lasted this long in a relationship and yet I still love the man I said yes to four years ago. Love never ends and ceases to exist. I just hope he feels the same way… Hahaha!
More and more and more to come I hope….
That’s about it…. I know I’ve forgotten a few stuff… Next time nalang… Hehehe! I need to get up early tomorrow…
Happy Valentine's Day!
DFA
I went back to DFA today to submit all the final requirements. Crossing my fingers that it would be my last trip there unless I’m going to claim my passport na.
Buti nalang the lady in Window 26 was really nice. Nice in a sense that hindi na nya masyado tiningnan yung mga papers na dala ko and just marked my papers “OK for encoding” Yahoo for me. Another line going to the auditorium though…
Encoding. It only took me an hour and a half. Walang katapusang pila. Okay lang naman kasi this time malamig yung pinaghihintayan namin and as usual naman, pilang nakaupo kami. Kaya okay lang maghintay ng ganung katagal. Almost 12 na nung kinuha ng encoder yung papers ko. Kala ko hindi nako aabot eh. Ako yung last person na tinanggap nya. Yes! Natapos ang thumb print, payment and ayun! I’m due back November 13 in the morning to get my new passport! Gusto kong tumalon at magtumbling sa loob ng auditorium. Hehehe! All the pagod and paghihirap… Natapos narin!!!
We were on our way home by 12:15pm… Went to Cubao to eat lunch and to buy my luggage for my trip. Not knowing that right that moment, when we were having our lunch, may bomb na sumabog na sa Glorietta 2. Nalaman ko nalang when I got home (around 3pm) and Jet called to check if I got home safe. Told him I was about to take a nap. Ayun, may sumabog nga daw and when I opened my TV, ang nakita ko was the bridge connecting G2 to Parksquare kung saan we usually park pag pumupunta kami ni Jet ng Glorietta. Grabe! I was shaking when I saw it. Although I don’t live in Makati and I don’t often go to Glorietta but still, that’s our usual route. Hay, I started checking out on friends who might be in Makati. I got all the answers I wanted to hear except Mariel. Her phone was off. Kim and I kept sending her text messages throughout the day. Hindi na nga ako nakatulog ng masyado just thinking if she was okay. It was not until 7am the next day when she responded. I called her the moment I learned her phone was okay. Good to hear her voice. Na-low bat ang phone ng bruha at sobrang pagod sa trabaho, hindi na nya nagawang i-charge at ayun straight na natulog nalang. Oh well, that’s okay… Hehehe! Hay! Nakatulog din ako ng maayos after.
~~~~

I’m really glad na ako yung nagayos ng passport ko. Me, myself and I. All the going around the government offices… Talking to people… Ang dami kong nakasalamuhang tao within one day especially sa mga pilang ginawa ko sa DFA. Imagine, from all walks of life. At one time I had the chance to talk to a magsasaka from Quezon. Sobrang makwento si Tatay. Nakakaaliw. Hope I had more time to know him. Nakakalokah! Iba’t ibang tao. May mga nakatsinelas, nakasapatos, may todo porma, may mga simpleng tingnan. May reklamador, may pintasera, may mayayabang… Hay… Mga tao nga naman…

~~~~
Nakabili nako ng luggage ko! Now, I could start packing my things! So excited! Hehehe!
VACATION MODE: ON
Vacation Details...
It was supposed to be a trip like no other. A one week vacation with my friends since high school…
Our plan was, to celebrate my 30th birthday with our friends who are currently based in Malaysia and Singapore. Have a blast. Shop till we drop. Endless nights of kwentuhan and food trips. But due to some glitches in my passport, the said vacation was doomed.
I know it was my fault. I had like three months to get my passport fix but because of my naturally lazy ass, I started working on it just about a month ago, which was not enough considering how some of our government offices work. For the last few weeks I’ve been going around DFA, NSO and the Quezon City Hall. This week I’ll be going back to NSO to get the final requirement then back to DFA to finally have my passport renewed – hopefully.
Jai, already cancelled her vacation leave. Tet on the other hand thought of still pushing through with the vacation with me, but locally instead.
Palawan! Yes… Palawan. Puerto Princesa, Palawan. The cleanest and greenest city in the Philippines.
I started gathering information about the place last night. Listing the things we could do and see around the city, our hotel, restaurants, shopping place (for souvenirs), tours and packages and all the works. And today after sharing them with Tet, she booked the place where we will be staying for 5 days and 4 nights, Puerto Pension for only 2,165.00 each (so economical!) and tomorrow she’ll be buying my ticket. She works for Philippine Airlines and she bought HER ticket for only 17.00 pesos! Talk about good incentives.
I’m so excited already. But I’m trying not to put myself on vacation mode, not until I’m done with DFA. Maybe on Saturday I’ll be uber excited na talaga. Tet and I still have an appointment on Tuesday with my doctor about our Malaria Shots as malaria is rampant in that region. All precautions are needed. Although I’ll be bringing loads of insect repellants, you can’t be too careful enough. Better safe than sorry.
Haven’t thought about what clothes I’ll be bringing with me. I have to keep in mind that there will be lot’s of water activities. Island hoping, the beach, and the underwater river! God! Ever since I saw an ad about Palawan when I was still a kid, that blue green water which was so clear you could see the seabed, I never stopped dreaming that someday I will visit that place. And now, I am. I can’t wait to jump into that crystal clear water (minus the jelly fish) or take pictures under the sea. So underwater camera is a must! If only I could recall how to snorkel… :p
Next… Cebu? Davao? Surigao?
(Cebu – I’ve been there in 2001 and Tet haven’t. Davao – she’s been there this year and I haven’t. Surigao – we both haven’t been there… Hehehe!)
Havaianas...
I was not able to join their previous contest, Take Us To The Nearest Beach a few months ago, because I wasn't able to go to the beach this year... Boohoo... :'(
But THIS ONE! I'm not going to let it pass that easy. If I have to convince - err - FORCE Jet to buy these CD's too, I will do it! Hehehe!
For all those interested, good luck to us!
Start buying those CD's!
